What Happens in Vegas pt. 4

Nicki and Safaree laid wrapped in each others arms on her couch. He had now been married for five months and involved with Nicki for six. They agreed on a strictly platonic relationship that included sex. It was easily becoming much more but they tried to ignore it.

"Tasha is going out of town this weekend. I can stay longer, maybe the weekend."

"Yeah." She sat up to look at him. "That probably won't work for me."

"Oh. Alright." He sounded disappointed and she began to feel bad.

"I'll call you when I get home Friday and Saturday. Maybe we could still hang out."

"Where you going?'

"Out." She said simply.

"With?"

"Well, Friday I'm going out with Thembi on a double date. Its so stupid." She rolled her eyes. "But I promised." She shrugged.

"And Saturday?"

"Saturday?"

"Yeah, it comes after Friday, the night of your date."

She rolled her eyes, "I'm going out with this guy named Richard. I meet him-"

"Oh." He moved her off of his lap and sat up. He starred at the tv.

"Safaree." He ignored her. "You're mad?"

"Nope." He replied. "We just fucking." He shrugged.

"Oh?" She raised an eyebrow.

"Yup."

"Ok." She nodded as she stood. "Well, get the fuck out of my house!"

"What? Son, you trippin'."

"Nah, son, Im not! You got some pussy so get the fuck out!"

"Nicki-" He stood.

"You not gone sit in my house and talk to me like I'm some random bitch. I don't need you, Safaree."

"I never said you did."

"You sure as hell pouting like I belong to you." She grabbed his hand and pointed to his ring. "That's the bitch you need to worry about. Not me!" She pushed his hand away hard.

"Man, fuck this. I'm out."

 He stood and snatched up all of his belongings. He walked pass her and out of the door. He made sure that it slammed hard. She jumped and starred at it. She felt like her boyfriend just walked out on her but in all actuality her belonged to someone else.

The front door opened slowly. Her heart raced fast. She didn't know if she was happy that he was back or ready to put him out again. As she battled her conflicting feelings, he tossed his things on the couch and walked towards her. He stared down into her face and she looked away. He kissed forehead and she looked down. She was putty in his hands. They both knew it but she denied it. He pulled her face upward and kissed her lips. He was surprised when she returned the favor.

Soon, they released all of their tension in a lovemaking session that shouldn't have taken place. They crossed lines that shouldn't have been crossed. Uttered phrases of feelings that should never be spoken between a married man and his other woman. After they finished, Nicki wrapped a sheet around their bare bodies. She laid her head on his chest as they sat in silence. She didn't know if it was all in her mind but she swore that his heartbeat played the rhythm of hers.

"I don't have to go." She broke the silence.

"Hm?"

"On the dates... I don't have to-"

"No, you should go. Don't let me stop you."

"I'll have more fun with you." She giggled thinking of all the trouble that they could get into.

"You sure?" He knew that he should push her towards going out but he wanted her to himself.

"Mmhmm. You know what we should do?"

"What?"

"Go back to Vegas." She laughed.

"No."

"Why?" She sat up and looked at him. "All your punk ass wants to do is stay in the house because you're afraid to be seen with me."

"That's not true."

"It is. At least there we can go out and have fun."

"Nicki-"

"Every since I agreed to this the only places I go are work and home."

"You just went out with your homegirl."

"To the grocery store because your greedy ass was about to eat me out of house and home." She sighed. "Come on, Faree. Please?" She whined. "The room is paid for. I have a credit a the last hotel we stayed at since we left early."

He huffed, "What about plane tickets?"

"You got that, don't you?"

"Yeah, man." He rubbed his hand over his face and thought about it. "Alright, alright."

"Eeek!" She smiled before laying her head back on his chest and enjoying the silence.

"Nic." He said when he heard her breathing slow and her weight become heavy.

"Hm?" She said sleepily.

"I gotta go."

"Just... Just hold me until I fall asleep." He didn't respond. "Safaree, hold me."

In that moment, when he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her incredibly closer, he realized what they had. A relationship. He spent more time with her and gave her more affection than his own wife. Part of him felt that this was wrong but the other half needed this. Part of him felt for Tasha but the other half knew that Tasha was either too caught up in her own superficial world to notice or she didn't care. Either way he put it, he was torn between right and wrong. What felt good and what was actually good. As soon as he was sure that she was asleep he slipped out of her bed and into his other life.



"Thembi, please." She sighed. "I really don't feel good. I don't see what the big deal is."

"You're lying." She said annoyed. "Its him, isn't it?"

"What?"

"Nicki, you need to leave him alone. I mean, what do you have to gain? The other woman never wins." Nicki sighed. "After he's done with you, who are you gonna have?"

"Thembi-"

"No, think about it. At the end of the day he goes back to her and you're all alone. That's what you want?"

She sighed, "Look, I have to go. You're making my headache worst."

"I thought it was your throat?"

"That too. Bye." She hung up. She tried not to let her friend's words consume her but they did. The only thing to pull her away was his phone call. She smiled. "Hi!"

"Uh, hey, um..."

"What's wrong?" She asked seriously.

"Um, yeah... My wife wants me to, uh, go with her this weekend so imma do that."

"But-"

"I'm sorry, Nic." He said lowly and he knew that she was probably around.

"No, no... Its fine. I'll just, um... I'll find something to do. Maybe I'll take my nieces shopping or something." She tried to sound happy.

"Alright. Well, I'll talk to you later."

"Of course."

"Bye." Before she could even reply he hung up. She tossed her phone and sighed.

The more she sat and thought about it, the more it bothered her. Her doorbell rang. She opened it and flowers were being pushed into her face and she was being asked to sign. She read the card. It was from Safaree and they simply said, "Sorry.".

"Hey!" She placed the flowers down and ran out of the house.

"Yeah?" The delivery man said.

"Um, do you have an address for where those came from?"

"I can't give out that info, ma'am." He continued to walked.

"Please! I, umm... I have a restraining order against this guy and I want to make sure that they aren't from him."

He sighed and turned around. He scribbled something on a piece of paper and then handed it to her.

"Here. My sister had that problem. Be careful out here. Get you some protection or something."

"Ok." She nodded. "Thanks."

She didn't know how she ended up there but soon she was sitting a few cars down from his house. She watched as he bought his wife's bags out of the house and put them in the trunk. They kissed and she got into the car and drove off, alone. Her heart broke. She pulled up to his house and rolled her window down.

"Hey, asshole!" She yelled and he turned around.

"Nicki?"

"Save your bullshit for your wife!" She threw the flowers out of the window and sped off. Eventually she had to pull over because driving with tears in her eyes was almost impossible. She cursed her self for falling for him and everyone before him. She promised herself to never let it happen again though. She was officially done chasing fantasies.
